CinematograFica uses cinema as a way to talk about gender and feminisms, through film screenings and talks.

We believe that cinema is the most suitable language to raise awareness about gender imbalances, putting the spotlight on the unequal access to the cinema industry for women, non-binary genders and minorities, and their representation on the screen.

Our cinematographic repertoire focuses on independent less known and less widespread productions and movies directed by women as a way to foster women’s empowerment.

We create in depth analysis on gender and the cinema industry together with women professionals of the cinema world, experts of feminisms and activists.

We participate as guests in cultural and cinematographic events.

We work together with cultural and film festivals in the selection of films and as experts and creators of talks and panels. Among our partners, La Compagnia theatre, LePlurali italian feminist publishing house, Sentiero Film Factory (for which we curated two in-depth discussions: one on “Representation and Representativeness in the film industry” and another on “Feminist film criticism”), Presente Italiano (where we met Roberta Torre for a talk on her cinema), Florence Queer Festival (with a talk on the “Mean Girls” of cinema), Porretta Film Festival (with a discussion on the Gender gap in Italian cinema alongside director Maria Iovine), Festival dei Popoli, Cinema e Donne and N.I.C.E. Festival, Karama HRFF.

We design and create informative content online in order to counteract the gender-gap in the cinema industry and create a new imaginary.

In 2022, CinematograFica conceived the “Mai Mute” festival. The first two editions of MAI MUTE were held in Florence at theater La Compagnia.
